“FOOTBALL: IT’S JUST NOT A GAME; A DREAM AND EMOTION FOR MILLIONS OF PEOPLE ”

“Football is like life, it requires perseverance, self denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authorities ”-this is how Vince Lombardi describes football.Football is now a popular game all over the world. Football first played in 1869 though modern football was invented by England in the 19th century. From then to now, football has come through a long way of revolution and has become the world's most popular sport .

Nowadays, football is played almost among 200 countries and there are so many leagues happening each and every year to promote football. In my perspective the top 5 leagues are : Premier League, La Liga,Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1.I started to watch football when I was in class 5 but that time I wasn’t able to understand many rules and regulations of football and the intensity of this game among fans.I realised the depth and the feeling of this game when I watched the world cup  2014.I saw all my peers, relatives are watching this world cup even in the midnight and when I saw that final match of Argentina and Germany I clearly remembered that goal of Mario Gotze which made me cry even I was unaware of it.At that time I actually felt the passion and emotions which are connected with this game named Football.

From then to now, not only do I like to watch a football game but also try to analyse the tactics of the game. I love the different types of philosophies of different coaches like attacking mentality, defence mentality, counter attacking mentality and so on.Two of my very favourite coaches are - Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho. Their rivalry at La Liga was a treat to watch when Barcelona played under Pep and Mourinho was the coach of Real Madrid; that el classic had everything from the rivals between Messi and Ronaldo to the fights between Ramos and Puyol. For me, Jose Mourinho is a tactical genius and I love his ‘Bus Parking’ tactics whereas Pep is completely opposite of him as Guardiola likes to play positioning and attacking football.

As a football fan, you sign up for a ride of highs and lows. The euphoria of a last-minute goal, the agony of a near miss, and the suspense of a penalty shootout are all part of the package. Each match is a new story, filled with unexpected twists and turns. We football fans have their own set of rituals and traditions that make supporting our team a unique experience. Whether it’s wearing the same lucky jersey, gathering with friends , or singing the club’s or national team's  anthem, these traditions create a sense of belonging and continuity. Being a football fan means being part of a larger community. It’s not just about the team on the field; it’s about the fans who stand by them. The friendships and bonds formed through supporting a team are strong and often last a lifetime. I’ve made friends from all over the world through football. Whether it’s at home games, away matches, or international tournaments, the camaraderie among fans is incredible. We share stories, experiences, and a mutual love for the game. It’s this sense of community that makes football so much more than just a sport.

However if you ask me which club do I support, I will surely say FC Barcelona,  a renowned club in La Liga which is also known as Barca . I started to love this club since I understand football. I like FC Barcelona because of its rich history, iconic style of play, and deep connection to Catalan identity. The club’s philosophy of playing beautiful, possession-based football, exemplified by the tiki-taka style, has always captivated me. Players like Lionel Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta, with their incredible skill and vision, have set standards that are inspiring. Barca is more than just a football club for me. The passion and pride the fans show, especially at Camp Nou, make supporting Barça feel like being part of a global family. Above all, it's the club's commitment to excellence and its history of producing world-class talent from La Masia that make it truly special to me. Barcelona has since continued to remain one of the most successful and popular clubs globally, with a record number of La Liga titles, Champions League victories, and a massive global fanbase. Through its ups and downs, Barça remains a symbol of Catalan pride and continues to live by its famous motto, "Més que un club" (More than a club).

Football nowadays also has a significance in terms of financial aspects. Football transfer window which generally occurs in the summer and winter plays a significant role in world's economy also..We,the fans also get excited to see the transfer of the players from one club to another club and always want some players to come in one's favourite club.In this winter transfer season, all the renowned clubs actually get some exciting players. For example, Jude Bellingham is playing fabulously for Real Madrid,Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo has proven a good deal for Barcelona.

The Qatar Football World Cup 2022 was a truly remarkable experience. From the breathtaking stadiums and innovative sustainability efforts to the unforgettable matches and cultural celebrations, it was a tournament that will be remembered for years to come. Qatar’s successful hosting of the event demonstrated the power of football to bring people together and create lasting memories. As the final whistle blew, it was clear that the 2022 World Cup had left an indelible mark on the hearts of millions around the world. The football itself did not design. The tournament was filled with memorable matches, stunning goals, and dramatic moments. The final between Argentina and France will be remembered as one of the greatest in World Cup history, with Lionel Messi finally lifting the trophy in an emotional victory that cemented his legacy as one of the greatest players of all time.

To be very honest, football is actually a reflection of life as it teaches us some greatest lessons of life.I would like to share with you the learnings I get from this ‘Wonderful Game’.I have learnt how your hard work actually pays off through the life of Cristiano Ronaldo.I have learned that only talent is not enough you have to work hard for achieving your goal as Lionel Messi has won everything in football whereas Neymar Jr. is sill without any big trophy or achievement. I have seen that how every moment matters in football as the same thing goes for our life, you have to focus till the final whistle of the game, especially when your team is playing against Real Madrid in Santiago Bernabeu as their fans rightly say, “90 minutes in Bernabeu is a very long time.” Again,I have realised that you have to be loyal and respectful to a thing even when it is going completely against you and I have been taught the significance of teamwork and leadership, how to keep calm under pressure situations.

Frankly  speaking, it is almost impossible to write about football in just a page, however to sum up, we can say that football is all about emotion, passion and encouraging many life lessons like discipline, hard work which definitely inspires us to become successful in our life, to become a better person more specifically a better human being indeed. Football is more than just a game. It's a dream that inspires, an emotion that moves, and a bond that unites millions. Whether you’re a player on the pitch or a fan in the stands, football has the power to transform lives, offering hope, joy, and a sense of belonging. It is this unique blend of dream and emotion that makes football truly special, a global phenomenon cherished by many.
